Pre Season Soccer

Soccer.....it's not just a sport...it's an adventure too.
Morgan's club team signed up for a pre-season tournament in North Atlanta, GA.  It was quite the drive for us....about 4 hrs.  The trip down was smooth until we hit Georgia.  There were some rough thunderstorms.  Never fun driving on a 6 lane highway with rain pouring, thunder popping and lightning cracking around you.
The rain from Friday night added to the fun of Saturday's scheduled games.  The fields we were supposed to play on were flooded so they had to reschedule on different fields.  We ended up playing our 10am game around 1:30pm.  And let me tell you....1:30pm in "Hotlanta" is not the greatest time to be playing a soccer game.  It was hot as hades....there were girls dropping like flies across the 10 fields of girls playing.  Luckily we only had a couple who had heat issues on our team.  As soon as the game ended we took the girls to Ruby Tuesdays for cool air and food....the things they needed most.
A couple shots of Morgan.....maybe I should call this the funny faces of Morgan section.

This one is my favorite...she ended up getting called for a foul because the girl fell...looks like she was tripped.
After we fed the girls we headed back to the fields for our 2nd game.  It was originally scheduled for 3pm but with the delays had changed to 6pm.  While we were waiting for the game on the field before ours to finish, we heard a loud pop of thunder and it was followed by a lovely streak of lightning.  All play stopped!  We had to get in our cars and wait.  The rule is you have to wait 30min after the last strike of lightning.  In the meantime, the rain started.  (the thunder and lightning moved on temporarily)
Here's what our field looked like:
The girls entertained themselves while waiting.  Can't tell you how many times they sang "California Girls" by Katy Perry.
We finally got the ok to play again.....and literally 15 seconds after they told us we could play, another streak of lightning goes thru the sky.  We were like "SERIOUSLY?"......couldn't believe it.  We waited again.  The girls were finally able to play their 3pm game at 7:30pm!  They ended up making it a shortened game--which was fine will ALL of us...kids and parents. We made it back to the hotel around 9pm that night....a long long day!
They tied both games on Saturday.  They had to win on Sunday to make it to playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost on Sunday.  They played great and had a good time together bonding as a fairly new group of players....so it was worth all of the weather hassles in my opinion.
Finishing with a classic Morgan pose- the hands on the hips!
Have a good week. Tricia
