5 years and still wondering....

Wilson came to live with our family 5 years ago today.....and to be honest I'm still wondering how I let it happen. Or how I actually know that he came to live with us 5 yrs ago today. (ok, just blundered upon the info when looking at a date on an old photo) I had fought the whole dog thing for 14 good years. Firmly keeping my foot down and sticking to my guns. No dog! Didn't need one....didn't want one. And then we met this sweet therapy dog named Surfer while Jenna was in the hospital shortly after her cancer diagnosis.
His visits would always bring a smile to Jenna's face and cheer her up. I think he was visiting during a round of chemo in this photo.
Then the dreaded email arrived. Michael got an email at work about puppies for sale. He carefully chose to show the pictures of the puppies to the girls first. Yes, I thought they were really cute but was sure they would find lovely homes somewhere other than mine. Ok, so you know what happened next. Yes, good old Wilson came to live with us. How could I deny my children a puppy? Especially after all they'd been thru....both of them had their lives greatly altered almost a year before. I'd seen what a dog could to for a sick child....knew they could work wonders in the healing process. How could you not love this sweet "little" puppy? I was told "He'll only be about 75-85 lbs based on the size of his parents."
And look at the happy faces the day he arrived.
Then he started to grow.

And the girls kept smiling....
And he kept growing...
He's grown all the way to 115 lbs!! Did I get suckered or what?
He drove us crazy when he was a puppy....there wasn't a landscape light or a hosta that survived him that first year or so. Oh, and he could dig too. (Jenna would say he was digging to China when he got started) But now at 5 years old, he's a great dog and we couldn't imagine life without him. He always makes us laugh and smile....he's such a big old goofy dog that fits in perfectly with our family.
