Happy or Grumpy

Ok, I am going to quit writing about the weather I promise....but I just have to comment on how we went from snow and cold at the beginning of last week to the most gorgeous weekend with highs in the low 80's. It was a beautiful weekend....perfect weather to sit by the soccer field. Unfortunately, Morgan's soccer team did not win their game yesterday.

Morgan has been such a joy the last couple weeks. Now I know a lot of people may think she's that way all the time....but anyone with children know that there are good days, good weeks and bad days and bad weeks with them. This is especially true when you are dealing with a prepubescent girl--you just never who will walk in the door after a day at school. You can get one of the 7 Dwarves.....it can be Grumpy, Happy, or Sleepy! You just never know. Well lately it has been mostly Happy coming in the door. The thing that has touched me the most and actually sort of convicted me has been how appreciative Morgan has been to both me and Michael. She actually thanked both of us separately for spending time with her in the snow last week. I spent maybe 10-15 minutes outside with her wandering around and throwing snowballs and Michael spent 30 minutes building a snowman.....that little bit of time meant something to her. While I had just taken it for granted as something "I should do" but wasn't like "over the top" about doing it. But to her it was a big deal. That's what got me.....little things that I am doing everyday are impacting my child --she can be having "days" (where she misses Jenna) just like me and need that little something extra to make it a better day. It made me realize I'd gotten a little slack about taking things for granted with Morgan. She's so self sufficient and independant that I've let myself be slack about taking time to do the extra above and beyond things with her. I need to be more appreciative of the day to day things--even the mundane--and not take a minute for granted. We know all too well that things can change in a minute. So I'm going to appreciate Happy and hope we don't see very much of Grumpy in the coming weeks!!
Have a great week.

Tricia, you're such a good momma, but isn't it even easier when you know you're appreciated?! Such a sweet story. Thanks for sharing. Hope to see you tomorrow. I've been sick since last week and will just have to see how tonight goes.

Older brother really getting a kick out of this as he recalls his "sweet" and "appreciative" younger sister growing up together. I recall a whole lot more "Grumpy" than other dwarves... :-)
